What is Criteria Based Content Analysis (CBCA)?
CBCA is a methodology that was originally developed in Germany as part of a statement validity assessment process. Its original purpose was to provide credibility assessments of statements that had been provided by children in court cases that involved them. The method has since been refined and applied in adult cases and there is an abundance of scientific literature on its criteria and their application.
Why Statement Analysis is Important?
Accuracy of your information:
The credibility or not of a statement will significantly impact the accuracy of an entire investigative process. This would apply regardless of whether the investigation is a performance review, an employment tribunal, a disciplinary process, a law enforcement or security-related investigation, or any other fact-finding process. The accuracy of the information contained in the case file is vital, and therefore, the credibility of the statements is imperative to building an accurate and complete picture of the event itself.
Course Objectives
At the end of your statement analysis course, you will be able to:
Identify the most appropriate method for analysing a statement for credibility
Highlight the difference between credibility and truthfulness
Analyse and code statements for credibility using a robust scientific method
