Programme Overview
**NEW** the research-based iALERT behaviour detection system used by military/intelligence/police has now been re-classified by EIA so that it is accessible to those outside of the government agencies who want to keep themselves (and those they care about) safe.
We reserve the right to deny applicants access to this course if we deem it necessary at our own discretion. If we do this you will receive a full refund of the course fees paid
Why is iALERT so important?
iALERT© is a Primary Detection system you can use to detect malintent from others, whether that is on the streets, at public events, in airports, and other contexts where you may face violence, assault, crime, or even terrorism, from individuals or groups. The EIA team are keen to share their expertise in behaviour analysis so you can spot trouble in advance of any dangerous attack or actions from others that may threaten your wellbeing – even your life. This will be offered via Zoom, online/live.
You will be part of a small group of professionals, from many walks of life, who will be trained and coached over two intensive and engaging workshop days on 13th and 14th March 2025.
The event will be delivered by Dr Cliff Lansley/Aaron Garner MSc with guest inputs from David Matsumoto PhD on detecting deadly demeanour from facial expressions.
Once you are equipped with the awareness, and the iALERT© primary behaviour detection system, you will be able to apply this vigilance to assess potential threats in the moment for you, your family/friends, and your clients.
You may be a professional, employed to protect others, you may be keen to learn this system so you can advise others, or you may simply want to arm yourself with iALERT© to make sure you stay safe in crowds, on the street, or other high-stake environments.
Applicants must have completed our SCAnR behaviour analysis course PRIOR to attending iALERT©. We include access to our online SCAnS module once you have booked, if you haven’t done it already, as you MUST have covered this prerequisite SCAnS course in advance of the two-day iALERT© course.

Course Objectives
Aim
To keep you safe by providing a system for assessing behaviour from a distance that might signal an imminent attack or planning towards one.
Objectives
At the end of the 2-day event you will be able to:
- Identify clusters of research-based behaviour from a distance that might signal malintent from others
- Increase your awareness and attentiveness in high stake environments
- Engage with others using elicitation techniques that can help you make decisions about suspects.
Programme Outline
Pre-Course:
Prior to the two-day event you will need to:
- Complete an online Module on the SCAnS system and take an online test for it.
- Sign a confidentiality agreement to protect the iALERT© system.
Day One:
- Overview of Threat Detection and evidence of its use
- The 49 primary detection indicators of iALERT© (incorporating SCAnR)
- The algorithm and application of the EIA approach
- Attentiveness in crowds and with individuals
- Case Study: White Paper covering Red-team test in a counter-terrorist context.
- Spotting deadly demeanour (with David Matsumoto PhD).
Day Two:

- ‘Left of Bang’ – recognising the stages that lead up to an attack (preparation, planning, imminent)
- How violence escalates to homicide in relationships (with Kerry Daynes [Forensic Profiler])
- Engagement and elicitation techniques to evaluate the identity and intent of a suspect/person of interest.
Post Course:
Following the workshop you will be given access to online resources including:
- Continued access to SCAnS/BA module
- Detecting Deadly Demeanour (Humintell) module (included)
- White papers/research and further reading.
Who should attend?
We are targeting a small group of professionals, from many walks of life, who we feel may be interested in detecting malintent from others, whether that is on the streets, at public events, in airports, shopping malls and other contexts where you may face violence, assault, crime, or even terrorism from individuals or groups. It is particularly suitable for Police, Intelligence, Military, and Security professionals though safety for self and those we care about is increasingly needed for extra vigilance in crowds. Attendees will be trained to use iALERT in their own life and professional investigations and security work. You will be required to commit to not release the iALERT system into the public domain via the internet. Individuals wanting to train/coach the system to others will need to secure advance written permission from EIA to ensure appropriate protection and copyright constraints are adhered to.
